Featured MMA Fighter: Chad Tyler – BJJ and Muay Thai Training

BJJ and Muay Thai Training

Here at the Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts we have students that range from young to old and hobbyists to competition enthusiasts. Those that choose to compete can do so in several formats including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (gi and no gi) competitions, Muay Thai Kickboxing matches, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events. For everyone that decides to compete they train in our advance level classes for the respective style needed for the event they choose to participate in. Within these classes more advance techniques are taught and the intensity level of training is raised, necessary for the preperation of the upcoming competition.

Featured MMA Fighter: Chad Tyler

Of the many students at our academy Chad Tyler is our most experienced and competitve MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter. Chad has been training at the Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts for the last 8 years. During this time Chad has studied in depth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (currently a Brown Belt), boxing (with former coach, Jimmy Adams), and Muay Thai Kickboxing with our head instructor Kru Bishop Holmes. Chad is a very well rounded fighter versed in all aspects of the fight. He is scheduled to fight in the upcoming Bully City Brawl in Durham, NC on Saturday February 9th. Muay Thai Kickboxing

Muay Thai Kicboxing is arguably one of the most effective stand up striking styles in the world. Known as the art of 8 limbs, it incorporates strikes using punches, elbows, knees, and kicks. Muay Thai Kickboxing is an amazing workout and of course a great form of self defense. Check out this video of Chad working some techniques with Kru Holmes during a workout session.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is arguably one of the most effective martial arts systems in the world with a heavy emphasis on ground attacks. In BJJ the practicioner attempts to throw his partner to the ground and there utilize leverage and technique to submit his adversary. Common submissions used in BJJ include shoulder locks, armlocks, leg locks, and chokes. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is also an amazing workout and of course a great form of self defense. Check out this video of Chad “rolling” during a BJJ workout session.
